There's a song that you probably know. It's a 40-year-old song called Escape, but most people know it as The Piña Colada Song (I now apologize for getting it stuck in your head). Have you ever listened to the lyrics? It's a cute song about someone who is unsatisfied with his relationship. Communication had broken down and the couple was stuck in dull repetition. Late one evening, he picked up the newspaper and read a personal column from someone who seemed intriguing. She wrote, "If you like Piña Coladas, and getting caught in the rain. If you're not into yoga, if you have half a brain. If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape. I'm the love that you've looked for, write to me, and escape." Well, that sounded just like what he was looking for. So, he wrote and made a secret plan to meet her… only to find out that the woman in the ad was actually his lover. She was looking for an escape, too. They hadn't shared their dreams. As a couple, they didn't tell each other what they wanted. They were stuck in a routine and didn't know how to share their dreams.

We can get stuck in a routine and while sometimes that's good, it can also cause you to not live the life you want. When you define your dream, your goal is to achieve it. But what about the people in your life? Are they on board with what you want? How can they help? Do they even know? Does it align with their dreams? Get to know the one you love. You won't know until you define what you want and talk to the ones you love. You may just be living on Acres of Diamonds. Maybe you can escape together.

Love,
Joel Yeast
